Bespoke college/university courses

Durrell Conservation Academy

We run tailored courses designed for college and university groups providing direct contact with some of the world’s leading experts on species conservation in both Jersey and Mauritius. In Jersey the students gain a critical understanding of the role zoos play in conservation projects through the management of ex-situ populations and in-situ conservation efforts. Courses in Mauritius open up unique learning opportunities to develop tropical field conservation skills, learning directly from those working in-situ and gaining first-hand experience within a range of conservation projects.

As this is a programme designed to suit the needs of the groups that attend, each course is different. However, common topics include:

  • Animal welfare, health and genetics
  • Animals nutrition
  • Animal behaviour
  • Reintroduction biology
  • Habitat restoration
  • Intensive species management
  • Zoo biology

These custom-made courses can be run throughout the year on request by university and college lecturers. Please contact us at academy@durrell.org to discuss how we can create a bespoke course for your group.
