This Christmas at the zoo, we're inviting children aged 4+ to come and learn new skills, get muddy and enjoy the great outdoors as a 'winter explorer'! Join us for a different outdoor activity each day and be sure to bring warm, waterproof clothing.

Booking required | Free for members | Free with zoo admission for non-members

21st December: Wood Slice Decorations (Age 5+)

Create your own decoration made from natural materials. Using tools, we will drill a hole into a wood slice, which can then be decorated and taken home!

23rd December: Messy Mud Play (Age 3+)

Get muddy – create a mud cake or mud pie in the kitchen! Use your mud to create an animal picture or sculpture. Drop in session, no booking required.

27th December: Den Building (Age 5+)

Learn how to create a den. This session involves teamwork and a chance to enjoy the dens at the end!

29th December: Mud Play (Age 4+)

Connect to nature whilst playing with mud. Using mud and natural materials, have fun creating mud faces on our trees around the zoo!

31st December: Wild Art (Age 5+)

Create animal art using natural materials in the environment around you! Forage for your arty materials to create large images of nature.

2nd January: Fire Building Survival Skills (Age 5+)

Learn how to build a fire using flint and steel and keep safe as your fire grows.

A parent or guardian must supervise children for the duration of the activities. Suggested one adult per child.

A warm and dry child can happily explore – we recommend you come with a base layer top and bottom, waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket with a hood, waterproof shoes or wellington boots. Gloves and hats are useful to bring along in a bag if needed. If your child has long hair please tie it back for our fire building activity.

Activities will be based outside. If there is torrential rain, we will continue a similar activity in the classroom linked to our outdoor nature garden. There will be water to wash off muddy children or parents! Use the indoor area to dry off and get warm before you continue to explore the zoo.
